Series One Suspended—memory past (2007)A show of the first lot of drawings and thoughts drawn for and from the idea of memory, the categorising and naming of experience life —building histories.Looking at the structure of holding devices of memory, the marking of a collective experience. A history. Held, suspended and cast with a distance that shields experience from the viewer.Whether in a photo, plaster shape, drawing or glass the viewer is distanced from the moment or the life lived to that point. The image holding an emblem of a life, situating the image whether worn from touch, rusted through air or fading with the damage through enduring time within a context that is interpreted. Tracing an emblematic image can be an entry point to experience a distance from an object. This is part one of working series on a portrait of a friend. The discussion of the experience of drawing painting with him, reflecting on his work, my own experience are always being present in the tracing. The marking of that time spent observing, discussing and exchange of words. The building of experience together, the assumption of the contract of trust will be respected on both parts.Series two is memory present and is building. Series three (memory now) is planned to be the idea of a more formal presentation of a series of portraits.
